Résumé

My goal is to obtain a challenging and fulfilling position in the field of software development that allows me to apply my strong programming skills and my years of experience in the development community. The ideal work environment encourages independent research, working with skilled senior developers, and a strong emphasis on expanding my knowledge / learning new skills.

I offer an extensive background in web programming, enthusiasm to learn new technologies, and an appreciation of the flexibility that is part of a programmer’s job. My educational experience has allowed me to develop exceptional interpersonal and communications skills.

Currently, I am privileged to be working at OHSU with the Center for Research on Occupational and Environmental Toxicology (CROET) in developing an interactive research exhibit for use at area health fairs. The exhibit, as part of the Health Discoveries Program, visits low income, rural communities. The HDP encourages communities to both learn more about their health as well as giving them a chance to participate in ongoing research studies at OHSU.

My last position was at Jama Software working as a core developer on Contour Requirements Management Software. Contour is a web based RM solution whose core is written in Java. The UI is written in a combination of Spring MVC and an extension of the Ext JavaScript framework. Some of the tools used included Hibernate, Velocity templates, Tiles, Spring Security, Lucene full text search, and DbUnit.

I have also worked at Webtrends and ACS; companies with long histories in the Portland area.

I find it interesting that we recently launched our website only to be once again greeted by Mr. Franklin upon entering the event in DC.

A Monstrous Way of Debugging Flex

I hate logging and debugging in Flex. HATE it. You can trace, which is about as useful as a javascript alert. You can use as3-commons-logging, but this still lacks the robustness of something like log4j and certainly lacks the user-friendliness of something like FireBug. Details »

Wii Balance Board Meets Research

Balancing Research Data

I’ve been looking into getting some use out of my Wii Balance Board. Now, rather than just hook it up to the Wii (Bah, too easy), I’ve figured that the hords of homebrewers out there could help me get it on my mac.

Well, no surprise, but there were plenty of forums, homebrewer’s web sites, and even wikis that helped me out. Here are just a few of them.
